Race registration closes the week of the race. We have to get orders in for finisher awards well before that. So, if you expect to finish and want an award, SIGN UP EARLY. (also signing up early saves you a little cash money :) )
Yes! The race is held at the Montebello Campground and we have a variety of campsites available. Those with camp sites can arrive Friday afternoon and do not need to clear their sites until after they finish the race. Additional nights for camping can be reserved through the country store (we only handle Friday night reservations). Also, we have been selling out of camp sites, a great problem to have! If you know others racing, we strongly suggest sharing camp sites as most can fit multiple tents/vehicles. Please see our Camping/Accommodations page for more details.
Unfortunately there is no available wifi on site and rarely is anyone able to get a signal at the start/finish area. You can always drive up the road to the parkway if you need to use your phone.
If at all possible, picking up your packet the day before the race during pick-up hours is best. It also give you that chance to grab a bite to eat with fellow runners and race staff, and sit in on the pre-race meeting. However, things happen. You can have a friend/family member pick up your packet but ultimately having your race bib at the start of the race is YOUR responsibility. We will have packets available for pick up morning of as a last resort.
Good news for you - we aren't requiring meals to be purchased :) Come hungry! But do be a friend and bring a snack to share to the pre-race meeting if you're joining. We typically provide a large variety of pizza Friday evening at pre-race. On race day our wonderful volunteers prepare vegetarian chili that has quickly become a staple hanging out post-race.
You are allowed to have a drop bag for MMTR, 50 Miler and 100K distances (don't bring a suitcase). The morning of the race, you will take your drop bag to the start line and place it in a trailer/truck. Your bag will be transported to mile 20~, the turn around Aid Station and wait for you at Long Mountain Wayside where you will have two opportunities to utilize it. Then it will be taken to the finish line where you'll pick it up. If you leave it, We keep it (we don't mail items as a general rule).
Unfortunately, no. For both the 50 Mile and 50K races the goal is to finish within the allotted time frame.
Yes! It takes a village to put this race on and your support is so helpful. Please connect with us by following the Contact Us portal on the home page and we'll connect!
Dropping or withdrawing from the race prior to race day can be done on UltraSignup. We do not issue refunds or deferrals. Also, if you have a desire or need to change distances, this can also be done on UltraSignup. Moving to a shorter distance will not issue a refund of the difference in race entry fees, but increasing your distance will require you to pay the difference at check out.
We are racing in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Cell service has improved over the years but we still rely heavily on our volunteer HAM radio teams who are typically at every aid station. Please ensure your crews, family, and friends are familiar with the course and directions in advance. We do not have ample support in place to be providing updates on individual runners at a given point through the day, but we do track all runners manually throughout the day for safety purposes. We also have a strong medical team along the course for everything from a tummy ache to a series injury.
